Yesterday was a DISASTER! We did not, in fact, have beef and pepper stir fry for dinner - nor anything healthy. We actually ended up at Chuy's, and although Tex-Mex is delicious it is far from healthy. Let me start from the beginning of how yesterday ended up being so ... disastrous.
I had the best of intentions. Spin class had been great, and although I was sore I was feeling really good. Although, oddly, Tuesday night I noticed my ankle was hurting. By yesterday - it was fully swollen and I was in a lot of pain. I assume most everyone reading this strange blog knows me...but, I did not actually hurt my foot. Nope. I am 30. And I have freakin' arthritis. Granted a weird, strange anomaly of arthritis, but they call it arthritis none-the-less. So ... my arthritis was acting up. Which also meant fevers. Which meant I left work early yesterday and took a two hour nap. Woke up to hubby's little sis arriving and DEFINITELY not feeling like being on my foot and cooking. So we went out.
I didn't work out AND we went out to dinner. DISASTER.
But here is the big picture. I have arthritis, and I have a life, and things come up. Although this ten-week challenge was about a jump start it is also about being healthy and creating better habits. Although this ten-week challenge is definitely about losing weight (emphasized by the doctors appointment I had today and that cursed doctor's scale which I swear always weighs heavier than mine at home) it is also about keeping that weight off. So although this is a slight set-back in the challenge - I plan to stick to it. I will likely let myself rest today, but the ankle is feeling better and I have another doctor's appointment in the morning. And then I can jump back in. I can't be inflexible. And just because I had a set-back I can't quit.
I have healthy meals set up for today. I will make the beef and bell pepper stir fry over the weekend and I have the entire weekend to get an extra workout in. Week one of the challenge may not be the most successful so far, but there are some things that you cannot control - and it has definitely taught me a lesson in flexibility and determination. And week one ain't over yet!
